Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti, has turned himself in to the Lagos State Police on Monday, following the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba’s, order for his immediate arrest.
The arrest is coming after he reportedly visited the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, on Monday morning.
SaharaReporters reported that the last son of music legend, Fela, and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika made the visit together.
The Public Relations Officer of Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Monday, released a statement via his Twitter handle to confirm his arrest after he turned himself in.
He wrote, “SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI TURNS SELF IN.
“Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative.
“He has been placed under arrest in line with the law. The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”
