Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed a deal to play in the Saudi Arabia league next season.
According to AFP, a source who pleaded anonymity said without naming the club, “Messi is a done deal. He will play in Saudi Arabia next season.
“The contract is exceptional. It’s huge. We are just finalising some small details,” the source added.
When questioned about the remarks, Messi’s current team Paris Saint-Germain only stated that his contract is still valid until June 30.
A separate PSG source said: “If the club had wanted to renew his contract, it would have been done earlier.”
Last week, the Qatari-owned club grounded the 35-year-old World Cup winner for an unapproved travel to Saudi Arabia, where he is a tourist ambassador.
Messi’s planned entrance in the oil-rich country comes in the footsteps of his archrival Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed a lucrative deal with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in January.
