Paris Saint-Germain forward, Lionel Messi has finally broken his silence after he was suspended by the French Ligue 1 giant.
PUNCH METRO reported that Messi was given a two weeks suspension after an unauthorised trip for two days to Saudi Arabia.
He was also fined two weeks’ wages after a day of meetings between the club’s hierarchy.
The 35-year-old was pictured in Riyadh on Monday and advertised his presence in the country on his social media. Messi already serves as a tourism ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Reacting to his suspension, Messi in a video club obtained by PUNCH METRO stated that he travelled without the club’s consent because he thought that he had a day off after the game ‘as always’.
“I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always. I had this trip organized and I couldn’t cancel it. I had already canceled it before.
“I apologize to my teammates and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me,” he said.
