Nigerian-British-American actress, Sope Aluko, known for her roles in Marvel’s “Avengers” and “Black Panther,” recently revealed a personal health scare. In April 2021, she underwent a colonoscopy and thankfully received the all-clear.
In light of March being “Colon Cancer Awareness month,” Aluko regrets not sharing her story sooner. “I honestly feel it would behoove me not to share something so very important,” she said.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the US, and Black men and women have higher incidence and mortality rates than any other ethnic group.
The American Cancer Society recommends colonoscopies starting at age 45, but it’s important to note that colon cancer has no age limit, and younger people should receive check-ups as well.
“Being healthy mentally and physically are truly the biggest blessings, and nothing we should take for granted,” Aluko added, thanking her “AWESOME” team of doctors and nurses for their support.
Recall that the Black Panther hero, Chadwick Bossman, died of stage four colon cancer on August 28th 2020.
