About 40 people including six security operatives have been reportedly killed as gunmen attacked Danumaru village in Kebbi State.
Three locals were also reportedly killed in a similar attack in Zamfara State at the weekend. weekend.
A report by BBC Hausa Service in Kaduna, Monday, revealed that the gunmen operated for hours in the village, blocked exit points, and made it difficult for people to scamper for safety.
It was said that the terrorists reportedly looted goods and rustled livestock belonging to the locals.
After the Danumaru village attack, it was gathered that they moved to neighboring villages where they also wreaked havoc and set houses ablaze.
It was learned that over 20 bodies recovered after the attack in Kebbi had been buried.
According to a vigilante group member in Danumaru, who does not want his name in print, stated that they spent over three hours engaging in a gun duel with the gunmen, who stormed the village on Sunday morning.
“The trigger-happy gunmen came and killed about 16 locals here. They also abducted some people. I saw about 16 corpses in Danumaru village alone. In another location called Ramuna, they killed seven, and five locals were killed in Danburku.
“I was in Danumaru village during the attack. Security operatives were informed. They met the bandits at Ramuna and engaged them in a fierce combat,” he said.
Also, a resident of Danumaru stressed that there was a mass exodus from the village.
“Today, we have buried at least 37 bodies, apart from the six police operatives that were killed.”
He stated further that the reinforcement of security operatives from the Bena community did not deter the gunmen as Danumaru remained in their bondage.
He said the gunmen killed those coming back from the farms and those moving out of the village.
Contacted, the Kebbi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, could not report on the attack. Gunmen also killed a young businessman and others in Shinkafi town of Zamfara State.
While decrying the incident, a local said the presence of the military has not done anything to the attack they had been facing area.
