11 persons have been reported dead after a passenger boat capsized in, Riau province, western Indonesia on Thursday.
Local authorities revealed that 62 people were rescued, while they also retrieved lifeless bodies of the deceased.
“The capsized boat carried 74 people. Sixty-two survived the incident, 11 are dead, and one other is still being searched for,” an official identified as Kukuh Widodo, said.
Shortly after leaving Tembilahan port, which is situated 198 kilometres (123 miles) away in a neighbouring province, the speedboat headed for Tanjung Pinang city in the Riau islands capsized.
While the actual number of individuals aboard the Evelyn Calista 01 has not been determined, He warned that the number of missing could climb as the cause of the accident is still unknown.
