A Nigerian veteran journalist and one of the country’s most distinguished columnists, Peter Enahoro, is dead.
The 88 years-old iconic journalists, died in London, the United Kingdom on Monday.
The news of his demise was announced in a terse statement by Nigeria’s foremost female journal, Ms. Bunmi Sofola.
The statement read in part, “Regret to announce the passing on of our iconic journalist Peter Enahoro “Peter Pan” today in London at the age of 88. RIP.
“Also known by the pen name of “Peter Pan” because of his popular column in New African magazine under that name.
“He has been described as ‘perhaps Africa’s best-known international journalist,” she wrote.
The late journalist, who was born on January 21, 1935, was one of the finest journalists, authors, businessmen, and publishers, Nigeria has ever produced.
The deceased columnist, who was popularly known as Peter Pan, was one of the pioneers of Nigerian journalism and became editor of the Daily Times at a young age.
The celebrated journalist, who attended the prestigious Government College, Ughelli (in present-day Delta State), was a contemporary of the renowned poet and Africa’s first professor of English, JP Clark.
