Following public outrage, social media platform, Twitter has restored the blue tick of some high profile celebrities.
According to AFP, on Friday and Saturday, a number of celebrities regained their verification badge seemingly without action on their part.
Some of these celebrities includes, author Stephen King, NBA champion LeBron James and former US president Donald Trump.
Gadget Africa had reported that Musk had tweeted that he would be “paying for a few (subscriptions) personally.”
The verification badge, commonly known as the blue tick, was also granted to the profiles of certain deceased public figures, including Anthony Bourdain, a renowned American culinary expert.
This month, The New York Times regained its gold badge following criticism from Musk, who had referred to the news organization as “propaganda”.
The Times is one of the prominent media conglomerates that possesses a gold checkmark exclusively designated for a “official business account” that remunerates a minimum of $1,000 per month.
