The Nigerian Bar Association has appealed to the abductors of its former president and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Okey Wali.
The 64-year-old legal luminary was abducted on the East–West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Monday.
It was gathered that some gunmen dressed in military uniform allegedly ambushed his convoy, and reportedly killed two aides and shot three policemen.
However, the association, in a statement issued by its president, Yakubu Maikyau on Tuesday, pleaded with the kidnappers not to harm the prominent lawyer.
According to him, the 26th president of the NBA had served in different capacities, contributing to the profession and entrenchment of the rule of law.
“I, therefore, plead with the abductors not to harm Wali and make a passionate appeal for his release to his family.
“The NBA assures his family of our full support in this trying period, even as we join in praying for his safe return,” he said.
The president noted that the incident reminds shows the nation’s weak security system and reminded the government that the security of the lives and properties of the citizens of this country, is a necessity.
He,, therefore urged the police to deploy all their security systems and power, to assure that the senior advocate is freed from the captivity of his abductors.
He had been first abducted in Rumualogu, Port Harcourt on October 15, 2014, on his way to visit his brother.
