A military helicopter that had been missing since April 6th has been discovered by Japanese rescuers, according to Kyodo newswire’s report on Sunday.
The wreckage was located over the sea near Miyako Island, located in Japan’s Okinawa prefecture.
The helicopter, which had ten people on board, including Lieutenant General Yuichi Sakamoto, a senior Ground Self Defense Force commander, crashed, and five bodies have been recovered so far.
The search for the helicopter began immediately after it vanished from radar, with authorities utilizing helicopters and boats to scour the sea.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, and investigations are ongoing, Reuters reported.
