British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Wendy Laing, has expressed her love for Nigeria, particularly its music, dance, and culture.
She said, “I’m sad to be leaving. Nigeria is so much fun, and I’ll be back. I love the dance, the music, the culture. It’s been good to experience Nigeria. I’ve been to over 20 States, and I’ve told my successor to also do the same. I’ll be back, and still travel wider.”
Laing, who was on a farewell visit to President Muhammadu Buhari after a tour of duty that lasted four-and-a-half years, said she had a fabulous time in the country.
During the visit, Laing congratulated Buhari on his successful eight years in office, stating that he had done very well to hold the country together.
She also urged her successor to visit over 20 states as she did to experience the diversity of Nigeria.
In his response, President Buhari praised the strong relationship between Nigeria and the UK and noted that the UK is a second home for many Nigerians.
“In fact, some wealthy Nigerians don’t feel complete till they’ve had a home in the UK,” he added.
He also lauded the UK for its cooperation on many fronts, particularly in the rebuilding of the North East, which had been ravaged by insurgency.
Buhari stated that he looks forward to retiring in Daura, Katsina State, after handing over on May 29. He added that he would be as far away from Abuja as possible.
