Nigerian star singer and philanthropist, Davido, has made a comeback with a new album, “Timeless”, after the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi David Adeleke Jr., in 2022.
In a recent interview with CNN for the upcoming African Voices episode, the music star shared what inspired him to return to music despite the devastating loss.
He said, “Obviously, it was a tragic situation, but you know what I’m saying, I still had to be strong for everybody. Not only my wife, my family, my dad, her family, my son that is watching us.”
The singer acknowledged that people would want to see him perform again, to bring joy and entertainment to the thousands of fans he entertains daily. He believes that this is what he was born to do and that the tragedy has reinforced his calling.
“I know that deep down that’s what people would have wanted. Obviously, I really had to calm myself down, take a step back and this has shown me that I was really born to do music because this situation would break anybody. I don’t care how talented you are. I don’t care how you love it,” he explained.
The loss of his son had a profound impact on Davido, and he admits that he had to take time to gather himself and regroup before returning to music.
“For us to be able to regroup ourselves, gather ourselves, and be strong enough to deliver this record, I feel like that’s what we are here to do. That’s what we are brought to do in this world,” he said.
Recall that Davido recently confirmed his marriage to Chioma in an interview with skit maker, Kie Kie.
As his new album hits all streaming platforms, Davido expressed his gratitude to those who supported him, especially during his challenging times.
The journey from his last album to his new one has been a whirlwind, but with the love and support of those around him, he was able to persevere.
The father of three also reflected on his past struggles, recalling moments where he sat by the ocean wondering if he could ever achieve what he has today.
In addition to thanking his supporters, he gave special recognition to his wife, Chioma Rowland, whom he regards as the strongest woman he knows.
In his words; “At long last. WE are back. The journey from my last album to this album has been a whirlwind to say the least. I recall sitting and staring over the ocean not too long ago, wondering if I could get here again, after all I’ve been through…..but with your love and support, we made it. I’m not sure what comes after this but I wanted to give you my heart, soul and energy. Today I present you “TIMELESS”.
