The Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers of couple in Bisodun village in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed by the police spokesperson in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi through a press statement on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the abducted couple, Mr. and Mrs. Ojo were taken hostage on Tuesday when the alleged kidnappers broke into the neighborhood.
Oyeyemi stated that the suspects, Mohammed Bello and Mohammed Bashiru, were detained after the village’s residents called for help at around 8 o’clock in the evening.
The PPRO in the statement said “Two suspected kidnappers were on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, arrested by operatives of Ogun state police command and two kidnapped victims were rescued from them.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO Owode Egba division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola raced to the scene where he met the local hunters who have already mobilized in large number to confront the kidnappers.
“The policemen, together with the hunters stormed the forest in search of the kidnappers and the victims.
“While combing the bush, the kidnappers suddenly opened fire on the rescue team which the security men responded to, but one of the hunters was unfortunately hit by the bullet.
“Having been overwhelmed by the firing from the police and the hunters, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and ran for cover.
“The abducted victims and the injured hunter were quickly rushed to the hospital but, the hunter, Adebare Ramoni, gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.”
According to the PPRO, the locals informed the police the next morning that the suspects had been spotted somewhere in the bush, and as a result, the Area commander dispatched teams of police officers to the site.
He claimed that two of the kidnappers were successfully arrested after the police and hunters assaulted the bush.
He continued, “The victims have recognized the two apprehended suspects as members of the group who abducted them.”
