The operatives of Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday apprehended two suspected kidnappers and also rescued two kidnapped victims in Bisodun Village, Obafemi-Owode LGA, Ogun State.
The suspects identified as Mohammed Bello and Mohammed Bawasu arrested have been identified by the victims as members of the gang that abducted the victims.
A press release by the police public relations officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta,the state capital said gun duel between the police and the kidnaper was tough that the kidnappers have to abandon their victim and took off far into the forest.
Oyeyemi said the abandoned victims and the wounded hunter were quickly taken out of the forest and rushed to the nearby hospital.
The police spokesperson added that the hunter gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.
The statement read “The information available indicates that the police operatives received a distress call from Bisodun Village at about 2000hrs reporting the invasion of the kidnappers who invaded the community and abduct Mr. and Mrs. Ojo.
“The police swiftly swung to action to the community while the hunters within the village joined the security operatives to comb the forest, while combing the bush, the kidnappers suddenly opened fire on the rescue team which was repelled by the security men but unfortunately, one of the hunters was seriously hit by the bullet.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, in Ogun, Frank Mba, commended te hunters, even as he ordered the transfer of the suspects to the anti-kidnapping unit.
Mba sympathized with the family of the slain hunter, praying God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
