14 persons have been rescued and one bandit killed by the men of the Nigerian army in a fierce battle in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State.
According to Daily Post, this was disclosed by through a press statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, on Saturday.
He said that the bandits’ hideout was destroyed by the troops of Sector Four of Operation Whirl Punch and the Special Forces of the 167 Battalion during a fierce battle.
He said that the troops went on a long-distance fighting patrol to the Tukurua area of Chikun LGA, where they fought and defeated the outlaws, killing one and sending the rest running away in chaos.
He said that during the operation, the troops saved 14 people who had been kidnapped, including 9 men and 5 women. He also said that the people were taken to a safe place to be debriefed and checked out before being reunited with their families.
He also said that the troops destroyed a few camps and found two motorcycles. Governor Nasir El-Rufai praised the work of the troops, he said.
