A fire accident has destroyed a total of 80 shops in Kurni Market, Kano, on Wednesday.
According to The PUNCH, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident through a press statement on Wednesday.
He stated that the agency received an emergency contact about 5:23 a.m. from one Aliyu Alkasim regarding the fire outbreak.
”Today, Wednesday March 1, 2023, our control room received an emergency call at about 05:23 am from one Aliyu Alkasim. He reported an outbreak of fire at Kurmi Market, Kano Municipal Area”.
According to Abdullahi, the service promptly moved its men to the scene after getting the report.
”We turned out our men from various fire stations within the metropolitan area. On their arrival at the scene of the incident at about 05:27 am, the area affected by the fire was about 160 X 100 feet.”
He stated that thanks to the efforts of their personnel, the agency was able to successfully preserve multiple establishments in the market area, with no injuries or deaths reported.
He stated that the issue is still being investigated.
He asked the public to “always turn off all electrical appliances and unplug from the power supply while not in use, and to avoid the thoughtless use of naked fire throughout the market premises.”
