Lionel Messi wins best Fifa men’s player of the year award

Argentina and Paris St-Germain forward Lionel Messi, was on Monday evening named the men’s player of the year at the 2022 Best Fifa Awards.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner won the prize ahead of French strikers Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe.

Messi, 35, scored 27 goals in 49 appearances for club and country in 2021–2022, which helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Messi also finished the tournament with the Golden Ball award.
