The national female football team of Haiti and Portugal have qualified for their first ever world cup tournament.
The next edition of the tournament will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
The tournament is expected to take place between July 20 to August 20; and it’s the first Women’s World Cup to feature 32 teams.
Haiti qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history after defeating Chile 2-1 in a play-off event in New Zealand on Wednesday.
They will compete in Group D at the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
Also, a 2:1 victory by Portugal over their Cameroonian counterpart gave them their first ever ticket to the tournament.
Portugal could potentially join four-time champions the USA in Group E, along with fellow debutants Vietnam and the Netherlands.
Portugal’s World Cup campaign gets underway on July 23 against the Netherlands, followed by games against Vietnam on July 27 and the USA on August 1.
