In an effort to ensure a smooth election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has pledged to deploy 102,000 officers as it settles unpaid allawances.
The Punch reported that this was revealed on Monday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Olusola Odumosu.
The safety of voters before, during, and after the election, according to Odumosu, was a primary priority. He also promised that there would be no violence during the elections.
“The NSCDC will be deploying 102,000 personnel in advance of the upcoming elections, Nigerians can be rest assured that the election will be successful, free, and fair.
“In order to protect voters and the infrastructure of the Independent National Electoral Commission, we are collaborating diligently with other security authorities,” he declared.
The NSCDC Spokesperson commented on the strategy for dealing with vote-buying offenders, saying, “As the political class attempts to coordinate voting buying, security services are also formulating plans to checkmate them.
“Good enough, the corps is a member of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, together with other security organizations including the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.
“All hands are on deck to quickly identify and apprehend the offenders. Work is being done to eliminate vote buying and arrest anyone caught in the act.”
Odumosu noted that the corps’ employees who took part in the elections in 2022 in Osun and Ekiti had received their unpaid wages.
According to him, the Osun allowances were finally paid to the policemen the week after they issued a statement promising them that they would undoubtedly be paid. “They received their Ekiti allowances last Monday.
“Neither the Federal Government nor the NSCDC owe their employees any money. All of them have been paid. Our officials are prepared to cover the election,” he concluded.
