Panic and fear gripped the Effurun area of Warri, Delta State, on Monday night after a gas plant located close to the Mega Parish of Redeemed Christian Church exploded.
The explosion occurred following a fire outbreak at the gas station opposite the post office in Alaka Effurun.
According to a resident, the gas station went up in flames around 10:30pm.
Eyewitnesses reported feeling the impact of the gas plant explosion over a 30-kilometre distance. They also observed individuals filming the fire outbreak from dangerous proximity.
The devastating incident has caused widespread alarm throughout Warri Effurun, Sapele Road, and its environs, with the effects felt as far away as Alaka.
Details as to what led to the fire explosion is yet to be known as at the time of filling this report and casualty figures remain unknown, and no fire service personnel were present at the scene.

A statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga says the suspect , Mrs Roseline Udom is aged 35 years
Mrs Roseline is a member of a notorious gang of 3-man, who specialise in defrauding members of the public.
The statement says while some of her syndicate members are still at large, she confessed that her victims are mainly single young ladies, who work in cooperate offices like banks, civil service and sales girls, assuring them that her brother who is based overseas is looking for a wife.
The suspect also tells her victims that she possesses the spiritual power of cleansing their afflictions and is capable of doubling any amount given to her by the victim.
According to the release , Rose Udom a mother of five children, joined the gang early last year and since then has defrauded more than five young ladies of a total sum of Nine million naira and more.
The Command therefore, advises members of the public especially teeming youth to avoid getting rich quick syndrome but rather engage in a legitimate business that will, in turn, bring better profits and growth in their lives.
