An ex-guard at the British embassy in Berlin who spied for Russia is about to receive a sentence at the Old Bailey according to the BBC.
The 58-year-old David Ballantyne Smith has admitted to giving the Russian government’s sensitive information.
He was captured in a covert sting operation when he was offered the task to gather “very sensitive information” by fictitious Russian agents.
According to the prosecution, he was driven by a hate of the Britain and money.
Smith countered that he was depressed at the time and had just intended to “inconvenience and embarrass” the embassy.
