A former manager of the Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, Kabir Dogo, was named the new technical adviser for Kwara United Football Club on Saturday in Ilorin.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Abdulazeez Mohammed, who resigned from the position earlier on Saturday, is replaced by Dogo.
According to the club, the appointment is effective immediately.
The club’s chairman, Abu Titiloye, stated that it was imperative to select a replacement coach because “leaving a void will not bode well for the club at this important period.”
At the New Jos Stadium on Saturday, shortly after their 0-2 loss to the hosts Nasarawa United FC, Dogo was appointed after Mohammed announced his resignation.
The defeat of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League match occurred on Match Day 7.
Only one of Kwara United’s seven games under Mohammed this season were victories.
They lost their other four games, tied Gombe United and Shooting Stars Sports Club, and triumphed over Akwa United FC.
The coach reportedly added, “It’s bad that things are going the wrong way, but the potential is there for them to achieve well,” as he stepped aside.
Since the club had accepted Mohammed’s retirement, according to Titiloye, there would be no need to permit a void, which is why Dogo had been hired.
Dogo had recently resigned from his position as manager of Bauchi’s Wikki Tourists FC, another NPFL team.
“Since Mohammed has accepted full responsibility for the club’s poor run, we have accepted his resignation,” the statement reads.
Despite the dedication of the government, management, and other stakeholders, he stated, “We cannot continue like this.”
With 12 games remaining in the 2021–2022 NPFL season, Kwara United hired Mohammed on an interim basis.
Following the conclusion of his three-year contract, the previous head coach Abdullahi Biffo moved to the United States.
After the 2021–2022 season, Kwara United FC then introduced him as the new Technical Advisor.
Mohammed made his coaching debut in Nigeria in 2020 with Katsina United, helping the team gain membership in the NPFL before he left.
After Kwara United was eliminated from the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup competition, he started making plans for the upcoming NPFL season.
