Four days after the earth quake that struck Turkey and Syria, rescue team, last night pulled up scores from the rubbles including a ten years old boy and his mum alive.
As at Friday morning, the confirmed death toll from the two countries has reached 21,000.
A lot of survivors are exposed to hunger and cold, despite efforts to alleviate their sufferings.
Reuters reported that the Turkey’s President, Tayyip Erdogan, was also expected to tour the disaster zone in his country again on Friday amid criticism from survivors and the political opposition that his government’s response to the catastrophe was slow and poorly organised – accusations he rejects as he bids for re-election in May. That election may now be postponed due to the disaster.
Report has it that rescuers from different countries are working in the ruins of thousands of wrecked buildings in Turkey.
Even in the midst of freezing temperature, they do call for silence with the hope of hearing the sound of humans alive under the wreckage.
As time keeps ticking, the hope of finding more survivors keeps fading but Rabie Jundiya, a rescue worker in Jandaris, said: “the civil defence teams will not withdraw … until the last corpse is recovered from under the rubble.”
