Nearly two years after the original European Super League initiative crashed within 48 hours of its inception, a new iteration of the league is slated to be launched.
The contentious competition’s concept has undergone a significant makeover. The revised ideas have a multi-divisional structure with between 60 and 80 clubs and no permanent members, with each team playing a minimum of 14 games each season.
According to the Mirror, A22 Sports Management, the group pushing for a “Super League,” recently introduced the new and improved ESL to the Spanish press.
It was also gathered that Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are still at the head of the pack despite being in the midst of a legal dispute with UEFA.
The new plans supposedly came about after discussions with a number of European clubs regarding their growing financial difficulties. The Premier League’s financial advantage over the rest of Europe’s top divisions is enormous.
Launched in April 2021, the initial ESL featured 12 permanent members, including six from the Premier League.
