Security operatives have been placed on high alert following a protest breakout at the main gate of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria.
It’s gathered that the varsity’s gate has been blocked by the protesters who are airing their displeasure over the recent economic woes occasioned by the scarcity of fuel and new naira notes in the country.
According to The PUNCH, a student who pleaded anonymity disclosed that soldiers and Operation Burst officers had arrived the scene.
It would be recalled that Ibadan residents on Friday took to some parts of the State like Agodi, the Governments office among other places to protest the situation.
The incident was said to have resulted in the vandalism of some facilities including Access Bank and Wema Bank branches located in the Dugbe and Queen Cinema areas of the town.
At Agodi-Gate, the miscreants within the market took advantage of the protest by burning the police station, destroying the WEMA Bank, stealing phones and looting some roadside shops.
