Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled the state’s rice mill that was commissioned today by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (ret.d).
The mill, according to the governor, will see to the production of the state’s indigenous grain, ‘Eko Rice’.
In his words, “Also commissioned today, was the Lagos Rice Mill in Imota, where the “Eko Rice” will be produced.”
Taking to his official Instagram page, he stressed that “The Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, is the biggest rice mill in West Africa, a 2 x 16 Metric Tonnes per hour mill, standing on an area of 8.5 hectares of land, with an annual paddy requirement of about 240,000 Metric Tonnes to produce 2.5 million bags of 50Kg rice per annum.”
According to Sanwo-Olu, “the mill will generate about 250,000 direct and indirect jobs to Lagosians, and help drive sustainable growth.”
He further expresses gladness “to be part of the country’s agricultural revolution.”
Recall that AM Business had already stated that Buhari was in Lagos today to inaugurate the Lekki Seaport.
Additionally, the Lagos rice mill was commissioned to start operating at full capacity.
