In order to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States has emphasized the importance of cooperating with INTERPOL.
This was said by Dr. Abdel-Fatau Musah, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, to an INTERPOL delegation led by Stephen Kavanagh, Executive Director of Police Services, during a Tuesday visit.
Musah called for a win-win situation and reciprocity between outside parties and ECOWAS in their combined efforts to combat transnational organized crime in a statement that was made accessible to our correspondent on Thursday.
At the national level, the WAPIS project was in its operational phase, and more than half of the Member States had the system up and running, according to Richard Gotwe, the head of the West Africa Police Information System Programme.
For the full accomplishment of the project’s goals, Gotwe also urged a deepening of regional cooperation.
In addition to praising Musah’s leadership in the WAPIS initiative, Kavanagh hailed the ECOWAS Commission for its work in the region’s battle against cybercrime, counterterrorism, and unauthorized immigration.
