The 7th Edition of the National Youth Games earlier scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State, has been postponed.
This was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar.
Punch Metro reports that the NYG was billed to hold from February 8-18, 2023.
Abubakar cited logistics, time constraints, and the forthcoming general elections billed for February as the reasons for the postponement.
“The postponement is due to logistics and time constraints, especially, taking cognisance of the commencement of the General Elections slated for February 25, 2023,” he said.
The permanent secretary further pleaded with all persons affected by the decision and assured that a new date will be fixed after the elections.
He continued, “While regretting all the inconveniences the postponement might cause its stakeholders, a new date for the Games will be announced after the elections.”
