The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, over the weekend, donated medical equipment to selected health facilities across the six geopolitical zones in the north.
According to Independent, JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, explained that “The intervention of the board in the area of healthcare delivery is to support the government’s efforts aimed at addressing the huge medical infrastructural gap.”
He stated that the equipment were donated in order to improve the health and educational profile of the selected institutions.
“In order to uplift the health and educational institutions, the board will continue to prune down its expenses through prudence, the adoption of relevant cost-saving technology, and other efficiency-strategies to free up resources to support the major stakeholders.” he said.
The items donated included incubators, oxygen machine, bed, parameters, ventilators, anesthetic machine, portable ultrasound machine, intensive care unit monitor, office table and ICU electric bed.
The benefiting health institutions include University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State.
Federal Medical Centre Azare, Bauchi State, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Teaching Hospital, Kano State, and Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, Zamfara State.
Others are University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara State, University of Medical Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Nsukka, Enugu State, Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State; Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos State; Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
