The Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, has said attack on Ekehen train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State will not affect the operation of the Itapkpe-Warri train service.
Okhiria said this while addressing newsmen, maintaining that the train service would continue operations, only that additional security measures would be deployed.
PUNCH Metro had reported that gunmen attacked the train station on Saturday evening, kidnapping scores of passengers who were waiting to board the train to Warri.
The Minister of Transportation, Mua’zu Sambo, visited the attacked train station on Sunday to confirm the situation.
Vanguard reported that an official of the train station disclosed that, “The Minister’s visit was to get first hand information, to know how many passengers were kidnapped, how many injured and officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) led by the Managing Director are on ground.”
This attack is similar to the terrorist attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022, where about 168 passengers were kidnapped and eight killed..
