Gridlock has returned to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway road as the Federal Government resumes the construction work on the site.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government suspended construction activities on the site in order to ease movement of travellers, bringing relief to motorists during the festive period.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, contractors have already moved back to the site as some were sighted between Kara and OPIC on the Lagos-bound side.
They were scarifying some areas with earth moving equipment while simultaneously putting new construction materials on other areas.
Also, officials of the Federal Roads Safety Corps and TRACE were seen controlling traffic at the U turn around OPIC/Fatgbems filling station.
The quick return to the site was praised by some road users, who also stressed the need to lessen the misery that traffic around construction zones causes.
The swift restart of work was praised by Mr. Osas Idohasa, a commercial bus driver who runs the Ikeja-Ojodu and Wawa-Arepo routes, but he pleaded for urgent steps to prevent bottlenecks and for the project to be finished as soon as possible.
Idohasa promised to reduce loss of revenue and man-hours by studying traffic conditions going forward before transporting passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s Wawa-Arepo axis.
