Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has asked Nigerians to pray for a peaceful and orderly transition in 2023.
In a statement to reporters on Saturday as part of his message for the new year, the Speaker made the call.
For a peaceful and prosperous new year, Ogundoyin urged Nigerians to raise their voices in prayer.
He pointed out how critical and significant the next events in 2023 are for the country, particularly the general elections.
The residents should intensify their prayer, he counseled.
A next test for the nation’s current democratic system will be the general elections in 2023, he continued.
As Ogundoyin put it: “The general election coming up this year is another test for our democracy.
“The peaceful and successful conduct of the election determines the sustainability of the nation’s democracy and the future of our country.
“So, we all must play our parts in ensuring that the country is not thrown into post-election crisis or avoidable political upheaval which may spell doom for the nation”.
