The second half of the 2022/23 Premier League season resumed with Boxing Day drama, a month after the World Cup break.
League leaders Arsenal, Brighton, Newcastle United, Fulham, Wolves, and Liverpool all bagged three points in their respective matches.
At the receiving end were host teams such as Southampton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Aston Villa, who all ended the day with defeats.
Southampton hosted Brighton, and after 90 minutes of an intense football, the visitors scooped a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Lallana, Perraud, and March.
Underperforming Leicester City suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of their visitors, Newcastle United, thanks to goals from Wood, Almirón, and Joelinton.
Fulham were not gentle on their host, Crystal Palace, as they dealt a 3-0 blow on Patrick Viera’s men. Palace became vulnerable after two red cards (Mitchell and Tomkins), standing no chance in the game.
Everton hosted Wolves and ended up as bad hosts as they fell 1-2 to their visitors thanks to goals from Podence and Aït-Nouri.
Afterwards, Liverpool visited Aston Villa. Jurgen Klopp’s boys did not walk alone, as they ran away with a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Salah, Van Dijk, and Bajcetic.
Earlier in the day, Brentford hosted Tottenham Hotspur to open the Boxing Day Premier League fixtures as the only game that day without the host losing, ending in a 2-2 draw.
