The National Emergency Management Agency, has disclosed that 105 Nigerians stranded in Chad, N’djamena, arrived Kano’s Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Monday.
The agency’s Kano State territorial coordinator, Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, made the announcement while welcoming the returnees in Kano.
They arrived around 10 p.m. on a Boeing 737-7k9 ASKY Airlines plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines KP9401 with the registration number ET-ANH, according to Nurudeen.
He stated that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) returned them to Kano as part of a voluntary repatriation programme.
Abdullahi revealed that the returnees would be given four days of vocational training and a grant to help them become self-sufficient, while also encouraging them to participate in advocacy and sensitization against irregular migration.
It is safe to mention that between May and October 2022, the agency received 560 Nigerians stranded in Niger Republic and Sudan.
One of the Kano State returnee, Aminu Musa, told EmergencyDigest that he went to Libya to find greener pastures because he was an orphan and his sick mother couldn’t support the family.
In his words; “My father died three years ago and things have not been easy for the family, so I decided to seek greener pastures.
“During my stay in Libya for two years, my friend that we travelled together was kidnapped.
“We suffered a lot and I decided to go back to Chad because I was scared of being kidnapped too. It was only the grace of God that brought me back.”
