The President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has tasked men of the Nigerian Army on the need for them to be neutral and more professional in the coming 2023 general elections.
This is according to statement signed on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled President Buhari canvasses army neutrality on 2023 polls, wants human rights obligations sustained.
Buhari enjoined them to consolidate their achievements in recent states election in Nigeria to deliver an improved performance in the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria.
‘‘The professionalism you exhibited in the successful conduct of the Anambra, Osun and Ekiti States Elections should also be reflected in the 2023 General Elections,’’ he said.
While urging them to protect and preserve the human rights of Nigerians, he said ‘‘the major pathway for winning the hearts and minds of the people.’’
He also tasked them to evolve enduring strategies that will consolidate their efforts in securing the country.
‘‘As a key element of our national power, the Nigerian Army will continue to be a major catalyst for our development especially by providing the needed aid to civil authority.” he added.
