Nigerian rapper, Emeka Akumefule, better known by his stage name Blaqbonez, has given an explanation of how he came up with the moniker.
The revelation was made by the rapper in the most recent “Tea With Tay” podcast. He said that his stage name had originally belonged to an unnamed friend.
He added that he took the name from his buddy because he wasn’t using it for anything important.
But before he started using the name legally, he had to ask his friend’s permission after realizing he had fallen in love with it.
“I stole it, it was my friend’s name. His name was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t using it for anything. The guy just likes rap so he gave himself a rap name, he wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything.
“So one day, I just said ‘bro, you no dey use this name and I like am’ and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I was in school then.”
The performer additionally disclosed that he began his profession as a rapper in response to a challenge made by his cousin.
“I had no idea I could sing or rap earlier. I started rapping because I was challenged by my cousin. I used to criticize people; I thought nothing was difficult.
“I thought whatever you’re doing, if I decide to do it, I will do it better so that’s how I started rapping.”
