Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force has taken over the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
According to the Vanguard, the assembly was shut over a rumoured planned invasion by some unidentified thugs.
To foil the alleged invasion and breakdown of law and order, armed police officers were posted in key areas of the assembly.
The staff of the assembly was also seen leaving their offices and heading home.
Some of the workers, who spoke with reporters but asked to remain anonymous, explained that the State Police Headquarters had issued an order for workers to leave the assembly in the interest of peace.
They claimed to have been informed that some individuals intended to attack the assembly.
During a phone call with reporters, however, the newly-elected Speaker of the Assembly, Gboyega Aribisogan, stated that there was no crisis in the assembly.
“The leadership of the police command in Ekiti informed us this morning that they had verifiable intelligence about some hoodlums coming to attack the assembly complex.
“And to avoid a breakdown of law and order, there’s a need for their presence and they have promised to conduct an investigation into the matter and report to us before the close of work today.
“I want to encourage my colleagues and staff of the assembly to be patient and bear with us.
“Normalcy will soon return to the house,” Aribisogan said.
