The Federal Government, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration, on Tuesday, evacuated 117 random Nigerian migrants from Libya.
The Nigerian Mission, located in the county’s capital State, Tripoli, in a statement issued Tuesday, by its Chargé D’affaires, Amb. Kabiru Musa, said the evacuees, which included 89 men, 22 women, two children, and four infants, left Tripoli at 1:00 p.m. and were expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 6:00 p.m.
The WILL reports that, according to Musa, amongst the evacuees were 48 persons who were released from Libyan detention facilities.
He also emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring no Nigerian is left stranded on foreign soils.
“Again, we have successfully evacuated another 117 more stranded Nigerians, who were irregular migrants in Libya.
“They left today, Nov. 1, at 13.00 hrs from the Tripoli International Airport and are expected to arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos at 18:00 hrs (Nigerian time).
“The evacuees include 89 men, 22 women, two children and four infants.
“Among the 117 evacuees, 48 were released from Libyan detention centres, which the Nigerian government facilitated.
“The Federal government is committed to ensuring that no Nigerian is left stranded in a foreign country.
“The Nigerian Mission in Tripoli will continue to work with the Libyan Authorities to ensure none of our citizens is unjustly detained and will ensure their voluntary repatriation”, Musa said, adding that personnel from relevant agencies will be on the ground to receive the evacuees upon their arrival in Lagos,” he said.
