A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has sentenced a mother of five, Chinyere Raman, has been to 10 years imprisonment for trafficking a lady to Libya.
According to The PUNCH, she was found guilty on Friday of promoting prostitution and engaging in human trafficking by Justice Abimbola Awogboro.
Raman was charged in 2019 by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking.
She was accused of purchasing the victim for 300,000 Libyan dinars from a Cameroonian (who is still at large) in order to exploit and prostitute her.
The convict was apprehended on her way back from Libya on February 22, 2019, at Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
Following her detention, she was charged with two charges of human trafficking and encouraging prostitution.
She entered a not-guilty plea to the charge levelled against her.
Following her not-guilty plea, the prosecution presented its case, calling witnesses and presenting several exhibits.
Justice Awogboro ruled on Friday that the prosecution established its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
On both counts, the judge sentenced the defendant to five years in jail.
However, Justice Awogboro decided that the jail terms run concurrently and begin on February 22, 2019, the date the defendant was captured.
