A video showing the employees of the United States Embassy departing Nigeria surfaced on social media on Thursday.
Their exit comes in response to the security alert issued by the United State Department on Wednesday.
The security alert followed a security advisory released on October 23 by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the US Embassy in Nigeria alerting to an increased danger of terrorist attacks in Nigeria, particularly in Abuja.
The Press Statement partly reads,” On October 25, 2022, the U.S. Department of State granted authorized departure status to Embassy Abuja, which permits the voluntary departure of family members and certain employees due to the heightened risk of terrorist attacks…”
According to a viral video, embassy staff and citizens of the United States were seen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos with their luggage as they leave the country.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian government through the Department of State Services has urged all Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant.
PUNCH METRO had reported on Thursday that the security body had arrested two suspected terrorists in Abuja.
