Six-time Champions league winner and Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos has slammed the organisers of the 2022 Ballon d’Or for picking Manchester City as the Team of The Year over the defending champions.
The German expressed his dissatisfaction via a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday.
An expression that questions how Man City were crowned the team of the year with the La Liga giants coming in third behind Liverpool.
Recall that, Real Madrid won their 14th Champions League and were crowned the La Liga champions in the same season.
Madrid defeated three big names of the Premier League: Chelsea, Liverpool, including Manchester City and added Paris Saint Germain to their list to clinch the Champions league title.
He tweeted, “3rd best team in 2021/22 – happy Real Madrid??”
While the German clearly feels his side deserved the award, Benzema’s win amongst others from members of his team would be plenty of cause for celebration for the Spaniards at the prestigious ceremony.
