The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has expressed his delight and relief at the release of the remaining 23 kidnapped train passengers held captive by bandits terrorists while lauding the military and other security agencies for their improvements.
Buhari made the disclosure in a statement signed late Wednesday by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, titled ‘President Buhari welcomes release of train hostages, urges military to sustain momentum,’
Earlier on Wednesday, Punch Metro reported that terrorists had released the last set of hostages taken during an attack on a Kaduna-bound train on March 28, 2022.
General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defense Staff, further confirmed that the Nigerian military had secured the release of the remaining 23 Boko Haram captives.
Buhari said; “This country’s Armed Forces are as good as any. Given needed support and encouragement as we have been doing, there is no task that they cannot accomplish. I commend them for this remarkable outcome.”
Buhari also congratulated the victims’ families on their safe return.
He added that the national relief brought about by the end of the six-month saga must be maintained at all times, nationwide.
The ex-general went on to credit his leadership for addressing the problem and de-escalating the recent surge in terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, assuring that the efforts would continue.
