The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)conferred the 2022 public service Integrity award on the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Nasarawa Division in Kano State, Daniel Itse Amah.
Buhari on Tuesday night disclosed this on his verified Twitter handle, hailed the police boss for rejecting a $200,000 bribe to forestall an armed robbery case.
Conferred the award in Abuja at the presidential villa, Amah who rejected the bribe was hailed for exhibiting sound professionalism that led to the arrest of one Ali Zaki, the Kano-based legal practitioner, and some police officers involved in the armed robbery case.
Buhari said, “Congratulations to the winner of this year’s Public Service Integrity Award, SUPERINTENDENT DANIEL ITSE AMAH, of @PoliceNG, who rejected the sum of $200,000 offered to him to drop an armed robbery case, and followed up with investigations until the culprits were prosecuted.
“It was my pleasure to present the Award to him today at the 4th National Summit on Diminishing Corruption in the Public Sector, in Abuja. I commend the Chairman of @icpcnigeria, SGF and Registrar @JAMBHQ for organizing the Summit and bringing together all relevant stakeholders.
“This year’s edition of the Summit focused on Corruption in the Education Sector and on our Campuses, which takes various forms: Cash for marks/grades, sex for marks, sex for grade alterations, examination malpractice, pay-roll padding, also known as ‘ghost workers’, lecturers taking up full-time appointments in more than one academic institution, including private institutions, lecturers writing seminar papers, projects and dissertations for students for a fee, admission racketeering, amongst others.
“And then there’s the issue of sexual harassment, which has assumed alarming proportions. I commend @icpcnigeria for investigating & prosecuting sexual harassment as abuse of power in our educational institutions. I encourage them to continue to do everything to tackle the scourge.”
