The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), congratulated the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, for the successful bust of a global drug cartel and the recovery of the largest cocaine haul ever—1,855 kilograms of the drug.
The NDLEA stated on Monday that it had seized the “largest cocaine seizure” worth more than $278 million and had arrested drug lords, including a foreign national, as part of a significant operation that lasted two days and took place in several different parts of Lagos.
In a phone conversation with Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd), the head of the anti-drug agency, from New York, where he is attending the 77th meeting of the UN General Assembly, President Buhari expressed delight at the news of the recovery.
“I deeply appreciate the work that you have put into the eradication of the drug menace. It gladdens my heart as I continue to follow the successes achieved under your leadership.
“You have demonstrated over and again that choosing you to lead this fight against wicked merchants of death whose sole aim is to endanger and truncate the future of our youth is a very good choice. Please keep up the good work”, he said.
“Buba Marwa is doing well. Two tonnes of cocaine, that’s a haul,” the President said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, at a meeting later with members of his delegation.
