The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Gidan Zuma village, Sabuwa Local Government Area, following a swift response to an attack by armed bandits.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when gunmen on motorcycles attempted to block the Inono feeder road to abduct travelers.
“On March 19, 2025, at about 2008 hrs, we received credible intelligence that armed criminals wielding AK-47 rifles were trying to block the Inono feeder road in Gidan Zuma village, aiming to kidnap unsuspecting commuters,” Sadiq said.
Officers from the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly responded, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle. Outmatched by police firepower, the attackers fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind a Honda motorcycle, which was recovered as evidence.
The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, Katsina State Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their swift action and bravery.
“The operatives have once again demonstrated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Katsina State,” he said.
