Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has shed light on the revocation of the Peoples Democratic Party Secretariat in Abuja.
According to Olayinka, the PDP failed to pay its ground rent for two decades, making it impossible for Wike to exempt the party from the list of landowners who defaulted.
The FCT Minister had recently revoked the land titles of 4,794 properties due to prolonged non-payment of ground rent, with some defaulters owing for over 40 years.
Among those affected are major institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, and the PDP. Others on the list include CONOIL Plc, the Nigerian Television Authority, the Niger Delta Development Commission, the National Universities Commission and the Kaduna and Borno State Governments.
Also impacted are the Nigerian Ports Authority, the News Agency of Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Environment, the University of Calabar, the Nigerian Postal Service, and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, among others.
Addressing concerns on Facebook, Olayinka stated, “For 20 years, PDP did not pay Ground Rent. They want Wike to remove PDP from among the 4,794 defaulters. A total of 4,794 land titles were revoked over failure to pay ground rent for 10 to 43 years. If PDP and any other organizations are among, so be it. Wike no dey look face.”
