Super Eagles star, Chidera Ejuke, registered a crucial assist on Sunday as Sevilla delivered a commanding 4-0 triumph over Real Valladolid in an away fixture, showcasing their determination to bounce back from last weekend’s humbling 4-1 defeat to Barcelona.
The emphatic win reinvigorated Sevilla’s aspirations for European football next season, as the Andalusian club produced a dominant display, scoring twice in each half to seal one of their most comprehensive victories of the campaign.
From the onset, Sevilla dictated the tempo, pressing high and controlling possession. Their early aggression paid off in just the fifth minute when Juanlu’s deflected effort nestled into the net, following a well-delivered cross from Rúben Vargas.
As the first half progressed, Sevilla continued to keep Valladolid on the back foot, intensifying their offensive push.
Their persistence bore fruit in stoppage time, with Juanlu turning provider for Isaac Romero, who unleashed a sensational strike into the top-left corner, leaving goalkeeper Hein with no chance.
This ensured the visitors went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
Maintaining their attacking momentum after the restart, Sevilla remained relentless. Vargas came close to adding to the tally with a powerful right-footed attempt that narrowly missed the target.
The third goal arrived in the 67th minute, though not without controversy. Referee Javier Alberola Rojas dismissed Valladolid’s appeals for a penalty, and Sevilla capitalized almost immediately.
In a swift counterattack, Juanlu was once again at the center of the action, receiving a precise pass from Lukébakio before calmly slotting home his second goal of the night.
With victory all but secured, Sevilla continued to push forward, and Ejuke made his mark in the closing moments. The Nigerian winger assisted Lukébakio in the 84th minute, setting up the Belgian forward to drill a low strike into the bottom corner, his 10th league goal of the season.
The comprehensive victory saw Sevilla claim three valuable points, strengthening their bid for European qualification.
Looking ahead, they will aim to build on this momentum when they return to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium for their next fixture against RCD Mallorca on Monday, February 24. The match is set to kick off at 21:00 CET.
