65 inmates from correctional centres are set to graduate alongside 28, 740 students from the National Open University.
According to Daily Trust, this was revealed by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olufemi Peters.
He stated that the university is fulfilling its social responsibility by offering free tuition to 58 of the offenders who are enrolled as undergraduates and seven of the inmates who are enrolled as graduate students.
At the school’s 12th pre-convocation briefing held in Abuja yesterday, Peters said that six pupils would receive First Class, 2,306 would receive Second Class Upper, 11,075 would receive Second Class Lower, and 5,558 would receive Third Class.
He announced that all 114 of the university’s study centers across the country will be holding the convocation at the same time, allowing students and their families to attend from the location most convenient to them.
He also stated that NOUN was working on a new plan for the National Youth Service Corps in the hopes that it would be “more receptive and lure some of the youngsters into NYSC.”
