The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has announced a partial closure and traffic diversion on the Third Mainland Bridge, beginning from 1pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
The road closure on the prominent bridge was necessitated by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s recovery exercise of a waste disposal truck that fell off the bridge into the Lagoon on Tuesday.
LASTMA made this announcement in a Press Release via its official Twitter handle on Friday, explaining that the road closure and traffic diversion would only affect motorists moving from Lagos Island to connect the mainland through Iyana Oworonshoki.
It noted that the recovery exercise would not affect motorists moving from the mainland to Lagos Island.
The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has concluded arrangements to recover the Waste Disposal Truck that recently fell off the 3rd Mainland Bridge into the lagoon approaching Iyana Oworonshoki from 3rd Mainland Bridge inwards Alapere-Ogudu axis.
“This exercise is scheduled for Sunday, 23rd October, 2022, commencing from 1.00pm.
“Consequently, there will be road closure and traffic diversion on the 3rd Mainland Bridge for motorists moving from Lagos Island to connect Mainland through Iyana Oworonshoki while the recovery operation is ongoing.”
In order to avoid delay and inconvenience during the recovery exercise, the agency advised the following alternative routes for motorists coming from Lagos Island and Mainland;
