Music industry expert and 2Baba manager, Efe Omorogbe, has confirmed his participation in resolving the disputes between EezeeTee and his former signees, Mercy Chinwo and Judikay.
The mediation team, which met on May 13, 2024, included Omorogbe, Eezee T’s lawyer, legal representatives for Chinwo and Judikay, and Apostle Anselm Madubuko.
Omorogbe took to social media to share insights into his involvement, explaining his role as a music business consultant in the discussions.
In the video shared on his platform, Omorogbe outlined the team’s composition and delved into his responsibilities during the mediation.
As a music business expert, he was tasked with providing clarity on industry practices and norms, particularly concerning master rights ownership.
He highlighted the common structure of master rights, noting that record labels typically retain ownership unless specific agreements dictate otherwise.
Using Burna Boy’s dealings with Spaceship Records and a prior label as a case study, Omorogbe illustrated how master rights can be transferred under agreed terms.
“They Should Follow the Standard Practice,” Omorogbe stated.
Omorogbe emphasized the importance of adhering to established practices, particularly regarding the purchase of master recordings.
He explained that if Chinwo and Judikay wished to regain their master rights, they would need to meet the label’s valuation.
“It’s simple,” he explained. “I want to buy, then a value is drawn up, negotiation happens, and you pay the estimation. A simple buy and sell contract.”
Omorogbe’s expert advice aimed to guide the parties toward a resolution grounded in standard industry practices, ensuring fairness and transparency for all involved.
